Atul Nanda was born in Jalandhar, Punjab to Late Sh. Ravi Nanda, Advocate, a prominent labor lawyer of his time and school teacher Mrs. Sudesh Nanda. Having graduated from the Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar, he was registered on the rolls of the Bar Council in 1988.
Atul Nanda was Additional Advocate General Punjab during the period 2002 -2006 and looking after the interests of State of Punjab in the Supreme Court of India. He has appeared in all crucial and sensitive matters for State of Punjab including the Reference of the President of India under Article 317(1) of the Constitution of India in the case of Ravinder Pal Singh Sidhu, Chairman, Punjab Public Service Commission, constitutional issues and those relating to the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act in the disproportionate asset case filed by Revenue and other authorities against Shri Prakash Singh Badal and several other matters.
He was also appointed Standing Counsel for the Government of India in the Delhi High Court for the period September 2009 to January 2011 during which he successfully appeared for Government in several important litigation including the 2G matter, the Women Army officers case, Haj committee cases, Defence related tender maters, the Mayapuri Radioactive Leak case and other matters. He was also Special Counsel for the Government of India in the Supreme Court of India.
Atul Nanda was designated as a Senior Advocate in 2011 and has since appeared before the Supreme Court of India, the Punjab & Haryana High Court, and various other High Courts of the country.
